Una nueva oportunidad
Cuando Paco Solomillo salió de la cárcel se prometió a sí mismo que jamás volvería a cometer un delito. Cinco años atrás lo habían detenido por el robo a una joyería. Lo primero
que hizo al ser liberado fue buscar trabajo. Estaba decidido a rehacer su vida. El problema
era que nadie quería contratarlo, y aquellos que lo hacían no tardaban en despedirlo en
cuanto se enteraban de su pasado.
Esto lo hacía sentir muy triste. Pese a ello, no se daba por vencido. Una tarde caminaba rumbo a una entrevista de trabajo cuando vio una cartera tirada en el suelo. Sin pensarlo dos veces se la guardó en el bolsillo. Más adelante la sacó y la revisó con más cuidado.
Además de dinero, encontró una credencial. Paco evocó el robo a la joyería y lo que había ocurrido después. Esos recuerdos lo llenaron de vergüenza. Gracias a la dirección que aparecía en la credencial, Paco llegó a la casa del dueño de la cartera, la cual en realidad era una peluquería. “Buenas tardes, encontré esta cartera y supongo que es suya”, dijo mientras se la entregaba. El otro la tomó y, después de comprobar que no faltaba nada, le dijo: “Muchas gracias. Pensé que no la iba a recuperar.
Tome este billete como recompensa”. “Se lo agradezco, pero prefiero dejarle mi
teléfono. En realidad busco trabajo.” Entonces el peluquero le preguntó si sabía cortar el
pelo. Resultó que, durante su estancia en la cárcel, Paco había aprendido ese oficio y
le había gustado. “¡Entonces ya tiene trabajo, amigo! Lo contrato para que sea mi ayudante.”
Paco estaba feliz, pero antes de aceptar le confesó al peluquero que había estado en la
cárcel. “Eso no me importa”, le dijo el peluquero. “Al devolver la cartera usted demostró
que es una persona honesta.”
