Una noche, cuando Fernanda regresaba de visitar a una amiga, se encontró en la calle con un simpático perro café y blanco. Miró a su alrededor para ver si aparecía el dueño, pero la calle estaba desierta; no traía collar ni identificación. Fernanda decidió llevarse el perro a casa.
Cuando sus padres lo vieron le dijeron que no podían recibir a un perro tan grande, que lo debía regresar. Ella respondió que no sabía a quién pertenecía, pero prometió buscar al dueño. Conforme pasaron los días, los padres aceptaron que Fernanda lo adoptara, a condición de que le diera de comer y lo sacara a pasear a diario. Ella le puso por nombre Goliat.
Cierto día, mientras paseaba a Goliat por el parque, vio un letrero pegado en el tronco de un árbol: “Se recompensará a quien dé información sobre un perro perdido. Responde al nombre de Tuno”. Venía un número telefónico y la foto del tal Tuno. Era idéntico a Goliat, pero Fernanda se dijo que seguramente se trataba de otro perro y siguió su camino. Una semana más tarde, Fernanda vio a una niña pecosa. Parecía muy triste. De su mochila sacaba hojas que iba pegando en los postes. Al acercarse vio que se trataba del mismo aviso del parque. Conforme pasaron los días, Fernanda comenzó a sentirse mal. Recordaba el rostro de tristeza de la niña pecosa.
Cuando consultó con su maestra, ella le recomendó responder al aviso, pues no estaba bien conservar algo que no era suyo. Fernanda aceptó y llamó. La niña pecosa y su mamá fueron a casa de Fernanda. En cuanto el perro las vio, corrió hacia ellas. Sin duda, era su mascota extraviada. La
madre de la niña quiso darle el dinero de la recompensa, pero ella no aceptó. Dijo que prefería que la dejaran visitar al perro cada semana.
